St. Urho is a fictional Finnish saint who is said to have chased away the grasshoppers to save Finland’s grape crop. Finland, Minnesota has long celebrated St. Urho’s Day on the Saturday closest to March 16th — in 2025, March 15. There will be a parade, a beauty pageant, free music, face painting, food, snow sculptures, and other community festivities.
If you can’t make it to Finland, MN, there are also celebrations across northern Minnesota, and indeed, many places across the Midwest with populations of Finnish descent.
